HEALTH THERMAL TOURISM ZONE FROM ANCIENT TIMES TO THE PRESENT: DENİZLİ- PAMUKKALE

 

The Denizli-Pamukkale region, one of the most important thermal regions in Turkey, is one of the richest areas in the world in terms of thermal water reserves. Located in the Rotuxu valley (Lycos), where the first traces of settlement date back 500 thousand years, this region has very rich and high-quality travertine quarries. The thermal water located here has been used for treatment by people in the valley for thousands of years. It is known that this region is the birthplace of medical education, in the Roman period it was also an important center of medicine.

 

It is known from historical sources that the ancient city of Tripolis, located next to the Buyuk Menderes river, was founded for medicinal purposes for the use of thermal springs, known today as the Yenichekent hot springs. Based on ancient sources, it can be said that medicine and treatment with thermal water have been practiced in this region for thousands of years.

 

Currently, the thermal waters of the region, which still do not lose their significance, are useful for the heart, rheumatism, blood pressure, rickets, skin, eyes, nervous diseases, and when used in a warm form as a drink, they treat vascular diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and Raynaud's disease.

 

The water in the springs of the Pamukkale, Karakhayit, Akkei, Enisekent, Saraykei region ranges from 360C degrees to 2400C degrees, so you can get treatment all year round in qualified Spa centers.

 

DENIZLI IS CENTRE FOR TERMAL TOURISM

Denizli is one of the richest areas in the world in terms of thermal water resources, located in priority developed regions that can integrate with other types of tourism and have the potential to create other destinations. From the point of view of creating thermal brands, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced centres of thermal tourism cities such as Cardak Beylerli, Buldan Anicent-Bulmaca, Tekkekoy in Saraikistan area, Insu, Babajic in Kizildere area, Akkoy district in Golemezli

 

 

SARAYKOY

Saraykey, which is located on the Menderes plain, is located 22 kilometers from the provincial center of Denizli and 220 kilometers from the Aegean sea. The most important geothermal area in the district is located in Hamamalti, near the village of Karatas. The water temperature in this region is 80 C, which is known to be useful for rheumatism, skin and gynaecological diseases, as well as diseases of the urinary tract.

 

AKKOY – GOLEMEZLİ

The area of the thermal tourism center Akkoy-Golemezli is located near the borders of the special protected areas Pamukkale. There are 4 different geothermal resources in the region, and these resources have different characteristics in terms of quality. One of the springs is used as a mud bath. Gelemezli hot spring mud is preferred for the treatment of skin diseases such as psoriasis, fungus, eczema, as well as haemorrhoids, osteoarthritis and rheumatism.

 

BULDAN - TRİPOLİS

The area is home to the Bosheli (Enice) hot springs, which are located near the ancient city of Tripolis in the Menderes River valley. The water temperature is 56 C and is used for the treatment of rheumatism, cardiovascular diseases, haemorrhoids, liver diseases, skin, stomach, kidney and gynaecological diseases. The area also has mineral water reserves. Mineral table water has a positive effect on the functions of the digestive system and liver.

 

PAMUKKALE

Thermal waters in Pamukkale, which is located in the ancient city of Hierapolis, 18 kilometers from Denizli, are recommended for the treatment of arterial stiffness, blood pressure, rheumatism, rickets, paralysis, skin diseases, eye diseases, nervous system and blood vessels, vascular inflammation and Raynaud's disease according to the patient's condition after a doctor's examination. In addition, hot spring water, which can be drunk as warm, is recommended for the treatment of stomach cramps, diuretic and inflammatory processes, kidney stones.

 

PAMUKKALE TRAVERTİNES

Travertines, a rock formed as a result of complex geological processes caused by various causes and the environment, are also known for their natural beauty. The 35.6 °C thermal water coming out of the spring flows through a 320-meter-long channel and fills the travertines with healing mineral waters in the form of multi-level bowls. Travertines filled with thermal water make Pamukkale an important and unique place in thermal tourism.

 

HEALING FOR CENTURIES

Pamukkale area, Valley Churches (Likos) has a special structure with thermal springs. People have used thermal water for medicinal purposes for centuries, where they have built functional and bright baths.

 

During the Roman period, the fame of the thermal waters of Hierapolis (Pamukkale) spread throughout Anatolia, and patients came to this region and sought healing. Historically, it has been proven that in ancient times, religious rites were held here, festivals were held with the participation of the public, and the rulers of the state and the rich prefer this place for treatment.

The healing properties of Pamukkale thermal water, known since ancient times, were scientifically proven centuries later. Pamukkale, included in the UNESCO cultural heritage list and carefully protected, offers its visitors a variety of alternative treatment options with healing thermal waters.

KARAHAYIT SPRINGS

This region has its own unique therapeutic red thermal water with a temperature of 58 °C, which flows from the spring all year round. According to the report of the research Center of Hydroclymatology of the Aegean University, this water with its rich minerals is a unique source of health. In the tourist centres located in Karakhayit, you can cure many diseases and health problems thanks to red water and thermal mud.

 

THE NATURAL, HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL WEALTH OF DENİZLİ

Denizli, which has a very important geopolitical position, is located in the South-East of the Aegean region. Denizli, the center of settlements since the Chalcolithic (Copper Age), where the first urban cultures appeared, was home to many civilizations. Denizli, which has survived to the present day, has an important tourist potential with its natural, historical and cultural richness.

HİSTORİC SİLK ROAD

The Silk Road is not only a historical and cultural treasure but also a trade route connecting Central Asia with Europe. It also preserves traces of cultures, religions and races that have lived in the region for 2000 years. 2 of the 11 hotels located on the Ahan and Chardakhan Caravan serais Road in the Denizli district are included in the UNESCO world heritage tentative list.

 

DENIZLI İS ECOTOURISM PARADISE

Kaklik cave is decorated with stalactites and stalagmites, and has travertine steps of incomparable beauty. The cave, called little Pamukkale or Pamukkale cave, has a lot of thermal water. Clear, colorless thermal water smelling of sulfur  is useful for some skin diseases.

 

Keoglan Cave in Dodurga

A large number of stalactites, stalagmites, mostly milky in color, of various shapes and types, turn the cave into a fabulous forest of cave formations.

 

Denizli Teleferik. Plateau Bagbasi

Cableway Denizli, plateau Bagbasi - line cableway, consisting of 24 cabins for 8 people with a length of 1500 meters, built by Denizli Metropolitan municipality, provides transportation from urban forests Bagbasi to olive highlands Bagbasi height of 1400 meters.
